- IÆm using a US Robotics 28.8 Sportster with a 90 Mhz Pentium, 16 MB
- Ram and Windows 95. I have to disable my 16550 UART in order to use
- the modem in any way. If the 16550 is enabled one of the following
- occurs:
-
- 1. The modem can neither communicate with a BBS or my ISP. Something
- about improper protocol.
-
- 2. The modem connects to my ISP (Using DUN) but data transmittals
- from Internet sites are somehow damaged or misinterpreted. For
- example, when starting Netscape a message pops up which says that the
- Server that IÆm trying to contact doesnÆt have a DNS entry.
-
- Finally, to top it all off, if I attempt to use the modem after one
- of the above occurs IÆm told that it doesnÆt respond and that I should
- check itsÆ configuration. The modem responds again as soon as I
- re-boot.
-
- There are a few variables. This morning I enabled the 16550 and set
- the sliders to max. Seemed to work fine for awhile. Then the same
- old stuff started happening again. IÆve noticed that the problems are
- less severe if I enable the 16550 but set the sliders to their lowest
- notch (The sliders on the ôPortö pop up menu below the 16550 enable
- checkbox, Modem Setup).
-
- IÆd sure appreciate any advice you could toss my way.
